Young Driver Training
You are three times more likely to be involved in a serious crash in your first year of driving. People aged 17-25 represent only 10% of the UK's licence holders, but are involved in over 20% of all road traffic accidents. Every year over 1,000 17- 25 year olds are killed as a result of a road traffic crash.

Why do young people crash more regularly than more experienced drivers? There are three main reasons:

  1. A lower level of technical experience;
  2. A less developed road sense;
  3. An attitude that results in risk taking.

These deaths are avoidable. For this reason West Sussex County Council (WSCC) have developed a half-day driving course to give young people the practical skills they need to become better drivers. The course, aims to bridge the skills gap identified in young drivers and bring about a change in attitude. During the half-day course, endorsed by motor racing great Derek Bell, you will get:

  • On road practical assessment and feedback on your driving technique from experts;
  • On road practical tuition to make you more safety aware and a better controlled driver;
  • Practical training in skid control and handling;
  • Practical parking tuition to make this daily chore easier, quicker and safer;
  • A chance to visit the famous Goodwood race circuit.

To join the course you must:

  • Be between the ages of 17-25;
  • Hold a full driving licence;
  • Either live or drive regularly in West Sussex.
