Getting the Right Cover at the Right Price

Finding the best car insurance deal in an increasingly crowded market place is no easy task. It is however imperative that in order to obtain the most suitable level of cover, at the right price, every motorist thinks carefully about what type of policy they are buying.

Streamlined Car Insurance
Drivers might want to consider this type of cover. Several insurers have launched stripped-down versions with no-frills, such as doing away with a courtesy car if yours is off the road. Norwich Union have recently launched Simple Cover, which is available only on the internet. This is comprehensive insurance, but NU says it is on average 10 to 15 per cent cheaper than it's conventional policy. Tesco offers Value Car Insurance, again only available online.

The Right Excess
By paying a higher excess if you have to claim, you can cut your initial premium. But make sure you can afford the excess.

Re-consider your Current Insurer
Take a closer look at the deals and incentives offered by your current car insurer. Some companies will give discounts for doubling up on home and motor cover, or for insuring more than one car with the same firm, i.e.
Admiral MultiCar. More Than offers home insurance customers 20 percent off car cover, while Direct Line cuts the premium by ten percent for a second car insured in the same household.

Pay for What you Need
Cover that allows you to use a car for private and business journeys will be most expensive. If you do not need full business use, trade down to cheaper 'social, domestic and pleasure' cover.

Watch your SPEED
With the increasing numbers of speed cameras, it is all to easy to collect points on your licence. Most insurers will ignore three points, but premiums will rise sharply once you have collected six or more points.
